LIONS JUNIOR TEAM TAKEN DOWN BY RED RAIDERS
Hub's Junior Lions hosted the Junior Red Raiders of Marion County on Monday night, October 3rd.  The game was the second game of the season for the Lions.  Following the coin toss the Lions lined up to receive and with a great and successful offensive drive drove the ball up field and across into Red Raider territory where the stop came to a grinding stop.  Facing fourth down and 4-yards for a first down at the 33-yard line the Lions elected to fight forward for the needed yardage but the call wasn't successful as Austin Palmer was brought down in the backfield for a 10-yard loss.
The Red Raiders took over on downs and was penalized on first down to move the ball back to the 36-yard line.  Replaying the down wasn't successful for the Raiders as the pass connection fell incomplete.  On second down and 15, Colby Cole was met in the backfield for a 1-yard loss with Jacob Stovall, Kris Parson and A. Palmer on the stop.  Cole was called on to advance the ball again on third down but Parson and McKain Hubbert held their position and made the stop after a 3-yard gain.  Facing fourth down and 13-yards, the Raiders punted the ball away.
The Lion offense set up their second drive of the evening at the 28-yard line with Palmer on a keeper around the right side of the line of scrimmage for a 2-yard gain.  Nathan Young advanced around the left side on second down and the ball popped loose on the take down with the Red Raiders recovering at the Lion 42-yard line.
Jordan Wallace took the ball up the middle on first down but Stovall made the stop after a 5-yard gain.  Young made the stop on second down to force third down and inches.  On third down, Cole took the hand-off and rushed up the middle where Parson made the stop.  Following measurement by the chain gang the Red Raiders were setting with a first down at the Lion 32-yard line.  Sticking with Cole as the carrier the Raiders moved deeper into Lion territory.  Setting at the 2-yard line with a first down Cole was met at the line of scrimmage by A. Palmer, Parson, and Peyton McDonald for the stop.  Determined to reach the end zone, Cole burst his way over left guard into the end zone on second down.  On the PAT, Aaron Pollard was brought down hard deep in the backfield by Parson who had burst across the line of scrimmage to leave the score setting at 6-0 with 4:37 remaining in the first quarter of play.
Dax Benton lined up deep to receive the ensuing kick.  Benton fielded the ball at the 20-yard line and raced up field to near mid field but a penalty against the Lions for holding moved the ball back to the 32-yard line.  A. Palmer and his offensive front returned to the field and on first down A. Palmer scrambled around the left side but was met and brought down in the back field by Bryant Crowe and Connor Roberts.
Facing second down and 13-yards, Benton took the hand-off and scrambled around the right side of the line of scrimmage for a 4-yard gain.  On third down, A. Palmer attempted the pass connection with Gabe Stidham but the ball fell incomplete.  Facing fourth down and 9-yards, M. Hubbert lined up to punt the ball away.  Pollard fielded the punt at the 39-yard line and returned the ball to the 46-yard line before being tackled for the stop by M. Hubbert and a host of Lions.  Following the play the Raiders were penalized for holding and the ball was placed at the 29-yard line.
Sticking with Cole on the rushing attack, the Raiders reached their own 38-yard line to face third down and 1-yard.  Cole took the carry once again and reached the first down marker where Stovall and Benton made the tackle.  On first down the Raiders decided to switching ball carries, Emelio Mandero took the hand off and advanced around the right side of the line of scrimmage where Caleb Palmer brought him down for a 2-yard loss.  After a blotch snap and a fumble on second down, Pollard on a keeper scrambled around the left side line and pitched the ball out to Payton Wates who was met immediately for the stop by M. Hubbert and G. Stidham.  Facing fourth down and 12-yards, Jordan Wallace punted the ball away with Mason Drummond back deep to receive for the Lions.
The Lions offense returned with possession at the 33-yard line following a fair catch.  On first down, G. Stidham advanced around the right side but the ball was fumbled with Parson on the recover for the Lions.  With a new set of downs at the 44-yard line, A. Palmer reverted to the passing attack.  On first down he attempted to connect with G. Stidham but the ball fell incomplete.  Second down brought a pass completion over the middle from A. Palmer to Dax Benton who raced his way to the Red Raider 35-yard line.  With time running off the clock quickly, A. Palmer lined up and spiked the ball.  On second down, A. Palmer attempted a pass to Young but the ball fell incomplete with 12 seconds remaining in the first half.  On third down with no receiver open, A. Palmer tucked the ball away and advanced around the right side line to the 24-yard line.  Following a time out, A. Palmer completed a pass over the middle to Young who advanced inside the Red Raider red zone as time expired to end the first half of play.
Following the half time break the Red Raiders received the kickoff from M. Hubbert and set up for their offensive possession at the 38-yard line.  Cole wasted little time moving the ball and advanced to the Lion 47-yard line before Drummond and C. Palmer made the saving tackle.  Swapping out carries with Pollard and Cole the Red Raiders continued moving the ball down field and taking time off the clock.  Setting deep in the Lion's territory with a first down at the 12-yard line, Wates took the hand-off and advanced over the left side of the line of scrimmage to the end zone for what appeared to be a score but penalty flags neglected the run and moved the ball back out to the 12-yard line.  Mandero took the ball up the middle on the replay of downs but Parson made the stop after a 1-yard gain.  The Raiders were penalized on the next down for delay of game moving the ball to the 16-yard  line.  Replaying the down, Wates went to the left side line with his carry but Parson and A. Palmer made the tackle at the 14-yard line.  On third down, Pollard attempted a pass connection to Roberts but the ball was over thrown setting up fourth down and 14-yards at the Lion 16-yard line.  The Raiders were penalized for illegal procedure before the snap and on the replay of down, Pollard went to the end zone with a pass attempting to connect with Wates but Drummond was on cover for the break up.  The Lion defense had held and the offensive front returned to the field with possession at the 16-yard line.
A. Palmer and G. Stidham moved the ball up field with rushing carries to bring the ball to just inches of the first down marker just outside the 26-yard line as the third quarter came to a close.  Facing fourth down and just inches, A. Palmer changed his count on the snap and the Red Raiders jumped off sides to give the Lions another set of downs.  On first down A. Palmer connected thru the air with Benton who dashed his way around would be tacklers moving the ball across midfield to the Red Raider 49-yard line.  Young took the hand-off on first down and moved the ball to the 39-yard line for another first down.  Sticking with rushing carries by Young the Lions progressed to the 35-yard line where A. Palmer attempted a deep pass over the middle but the ball was intercepted by Jacob Robbins.

On first down the Raiders called on Cole again to move the ball up field but M. Hubbert and Parson was on the stop after a 1-yard gain.  Second down brought a pitchout from Pollard to Wates but Benton was on the stop at the line of scrimmage to set up third down and 9-yards for the Raiders.  Wates got the call to carry on third down and plowed over right guard for an 8-yard gain.  Facing fourth down and inches, Cole took the hand off and burst up field to the end zone breaking away from would be tacklers for his second touchdown on the evening.  On the PAT, Wates took the ball to the end zone by rushing around the left side to put the Red Raiders in the lead 14-0 with 3:56 remaining in the game.
Pollard's ensuing kick was fielded at the 6-yard line by Benton who returned the ball up field to the 15-yard line before the stop was made by Roberts.  First down brought more of Benton as he took the pitchout from A. Palmer and gained 5-yards on the carry.  Facing second down and 5-yards, A.  Palmer called his own number and was stopped by Roberts and a host of defenders just short of the first down marker.  Third down and inches brought a pass completion to G. Stidham who scrambled his way to the 40-yard line before Wates and Jake Gunter could make the saving stop.  Sticking with the passing attack, A. Palmer attempted to connect with Young in the back field but the ball fell just short of Young's finger tips to bring up second down.  G. Stidham took the hand off on second and advanced to the Red Raider 49-yard line before Gunter was able to chase him down for the stop.  Wates brought Young down in the back field for a 4-yard loss on first down and misery struck again for the Lions on second down as Gunter intercepted A. Palmer's deep pass at the Lion 38-yard line.
The Red Raiders offense turned to Mandero for the carry on first down and Tre Tranum made the quick stop for the Lions after a 1-yard gain.  Second down brought Pollard on a keeper but Young, A. Palmer and G. Stidham made the stop.  Facing third down, Ryan Webb got the carry and once again Tranum made the quick stop for the Lions as time expired on the game clock with the final score of the night, 14-0 in favor of the visiting Marion County Junior Red Raiders.
