For the second week straight the Hubbertville Lion football team returned to campus following a road game loss. The Lions traveled to Guin to face the defending 1-A State Champion Marion County Red Raiders and were served their second loss of the season. The opening kick was received by Corey Stewart at the 14-yard line and advanced to the 22-yard line where Lion quarterback Aaron Dillard brought the offensive front to the field. The Red Raiders held the Lions on their first possession of the night after rushing attempts by Miller and Dillard were unsuccessful. McKain Hubbert lined up to punt the ball away with Hub facing fourth down and nine. Hubbert's punt sailed out of bounds at the Lion 48-yard line setting up Sean Wallace and the Marion County offense.
With the snap of the ball the home standing Red Raiders side of the scoreboard lit up as Ready Swanigan took the hand-off and raced around the left side line untouched into the end zone. The Raiders lined up to kick the extra punt on the PAT but faked the kick and passed to the end zone where the ball fell incomplete leaving the score 6 - 0 with 9:08 showing on the clock.
Stewart fielded the ensuing kick advancing up the middle to the Lion 33-yard line where he was brought down for the stop. Rushing carries by Dillard and Anthony Dillard moved the ball to the Lion 47-yard line to set up another possession for the Hubbertville offense. On first down Stewart was met immediately by Damonz Walker at the line of scrimmage for no gain. Dillard called his own number on second down and fought off would be tacklers before being tackled from behind by Justin Sanderson and Swanigan. Stewart was stopped on first down for a two yard loss and Dillard on a keeper fought his way just beyond the original line of scrimmage on second down to set up third down and nine. After a one yard loss by Stewart the Lions were facing fourth down and 10 from the Red Raider 38-yard line. Electing to fight for the needed yardage, Dillard went to the air attack with an attempt to connect deep down field with David Aldridge but the pass was broken up near the 5-yard line turning the ball over on downs to Marion County.
DeShawn Riebesehl took the direct snap on first down and scrambled his way around the right side line where Justin Franklin made the saving tackle at the Lion 26-yard line. First down brought Swanigan with the carry where he was met by Landon Miller for the stop at the 17-yard line. Reverting back to Riebesehl on the carry the Raiders picked up a first down at the 4-yard line where Aldridge made the tackle. Justin Sanderson was met at the line of scrimmage by Kris Parson who brought him down for no gain on the play. Aaron Dillard made the stop on Swanigan on second down bringing up third down and goal at the 4-yard line. Not to be withheld Riebesehl took the handoff and fought across the right side of the line of scrimmage for the touch down. The PAT kick by Ben Riggs was good and with 35.5 seconds remaining in the first quarter the Red Raiders were leading 13 - 0.
Stewart advanced the ensuing kick from the 6-yard line to the 27-yard line where he was forced out of bounds by Walker. First down brought Anthony Dillard with the rushing attack but he was brought down in the backfield for a 1-yard loss by Cullen Reese as the first quarter of play came to a close. Following a 3-yard gain on a keeper by Dillard the Lions were facing third down and nine at their own 29-yard line. Attempting to catch the Raiders off guard, Dillard went to the air attempting to connect with Miller but the pass was too deep setting up fourth down. Hubbert once again lined up to punt the ball away with the ball sailing out of bounds at the Hubbertville 48-yard line.
First down brought Sanderson scrambling straight up the middle of the field racing toward the end zone but Vess Benton and Aaron Dillard were able to make the saving tackle at the 20-yard line. Riebesehl took the ball to the end zone on second down racing his way around the right side of the line of scrimmage untouched. The kick by Riggins on the PAT was perfect and the score stood 20 - 0 with 9:34 remaining in the first half.

Rushing carries by Dillard and Dillard moved the ball to the Lion 44-yard line for another set of downs. On first down Aaron Dillard followed his blockers on the left side of the line of scrimmage and raced across mid-field to the Raiders 46-yard line. Following carries by Stewart and Dillard the Lions were facing third down and seven at the 42-yard line. Aaron Dillard with a keeper scrambled over the right side of the line of scrimmage to reach the 35-yard line setting up another first down and working time off the clock. Sticking with rushing attacks by Dillard and Dillard the Lions moved the ball to the 11-yard line for another first down. Dillard called his own number on first down and was stopped at the 9-yard line by Swanigan and a host of others. Following blockers around the left side of the line Aaron Dillard took the ball in for the score with 1:22 remaining in the first half of the game. The PAT kick by Dillard with Aldridge holding was perfect and the Lions were on the score board.
Riebesehl and Swanigan lined up deep to receive the ensuing kick by Dillard but Wallace signaled for a fair catch at the 39-yard line setting the Red Raider offensive front up for one more scoring drive before half-time. Wallace connected with Riebesehl who raced down the left side line where Zack Jenkins chased him down and made the tackle at the Lion 14-yard line. Wallace wasted little time on the drive and connected with Swanigan in the end zone on first down.  The Raiders lined up to kick the extra point on the PAT attempt but instead Riebesehl carried the ball into the end zone for the two point conversion. With 50.9 remaining in the first half of play the score stood 28 - 7 in favor of the home standing Red Raiders.
Dax Benton fielded the ensuing kick at the 5-yard line and was met at the 17-yard line by Dillion Atkins and a host of other defenders for the stop. Dillard on a keeper advanced to the 28-yard line on first down before Collin Roberts made the tackle. Scrambling around in the backfield, Dillard was sacked by Wallace as time expired on the half.
To open the second half of play, Roberts recovered Dillard's onside kick at mid-field. Carries by Sanderson and Riebesehl took little time off the clock as Riebesehl rushed for a 9-yard touchdown with 10:20 remaining in the third quarter of play.
Aaron Dillard and Jordan White lined up deep to receive the ensuing kick with Dillard fielding the ball at the 20-yard line and advancing to the 35-yard line where Riggs made the tackle. Dillard and Dillard advanced the ball to the 41-yard line to leave the Lions facing fourth down and three. The Lion coaching staff elected to fight for the needed yardage and Miller took the ball up the middle of the field reaching the Lion 47-yard line before Wallace and a host of Raiders brought him down. Dillard made the pitch out to Stewart on first down for a seven yard gain. Dillard was met by Garrett Melton after a two yard gain setting up third down and one at the 44-yard line. Aaron Dillard connected on a pass attempt to Aldridge who raced to the end zone for the score. The kick by Dillard on the PAT attempt sailed left leaving the score standing at 35 - 13 with 5:54 left in the quarter.
Andrew Gray recovered the ensuing onside kick setting the Red Raiders up with another excellent field opportunity at the Lion 48-yard line. Wallace took the snap on first down and raced his way down field to the 5-yard line where Stewart chased him down for the tackle short of the goal line. Parson stopped Sanderson on first down to set up second and goal at the 3-yard line. Sanderson got the call to carry again and fought his way over the left side of the line of scrimmage landing in the end zone for the score with 4:35 remaining in the third quarter. Riggs' kick was perfect and the score continued rising for the Red Raiders 42 - 13.
White juggled the ensuing kick and returned it from the goal line to the 7-yard line where he was tackled by a host of defenders. Rushing attacks by Aaron Dillard and Miller moved the ball to the 26-yard line where the Lions found themselves facing fourth down and one. Stewart took the pitch-out from Dillard on first down and was tackled by Riebesehl and Roberts after a 4-yard gain. Reverting back to Miller, the Lion offensive front opened a hole in the middle of the field allowing Miller to race down the field to the 20-yard line where Riebeshel chased him down for the saving stop as the third quarter of play ended.
Dillard called his own number on first down and scrambled around the left side of the line of scrimmage where Sanderson made the tackle. Calling his own number once again Dillard managed a gain of three yards on second down to set up third down and seven at the 19-yard line. Stewart took the pitch out on third down but was met immediately by Walker for a three yard loss setting up fourth down. Dillard attempted a pass connection with Aldridge but the ball fell from Aldridge's finger tips just near the goal line turning the ball over to Marion County at their own 24-yard line.

Comments from Head Coach Lamar Harris:
"We faced a very strong team tonight and we didn't do a very good job of defending. They are built on speed and they showed that tonight. Our team likes speed and that along with our like of defending brought us trouble early in the game. The game plan was to control the ball throughout the game and we just didn't manage to do that too well in the first half of play. The guys came out and did a better job in the second half but we were already behind and the speed of this team sealed the fate of the game. We have another strong team to battle next week. We've got to do better on the defensive side of the ball early on in that game or we will find ourselves in the same situation as we did tonight when the game ends."
