The stakes were high on Friday night as the Hubbertville Lions hosted their arch-rival, the Brilliant Tigers in a Region Five game which would determine play-off standings for both teams. The winner of the game was almost guaranteed to assured a spot in the state play-offs and make no mistake the Lions and the Tigers were both well aware of the position in which the game winner would be setting when the final horn sounded to end the game. Team Captains met at center field for the coin toss with John Bray, Jr., Jeramy Davis, Edward Fields and Trevor Markham representing the visiting Tigers. Representing the Lions were Seniors Dakota Dozier, Devin Marcum, Landon Miller and T.J. Pratt. The Tigers won the coin toss and elected to open the game by deferring to the Lions.

Chance Key's kick to open the much anticipated "cat fight" was fielded at the 26-yard line by Dax Benton and returned to mid-field where Austin Sprinkle made the tackle setting up Vess Benton and the Lion offense for their opening possession. D. Benton continued moving the ball across mid-field over right tackle on first down for a 9-yard gain with Key on the tackle for the Tigers. Miller took the hand-off and advanced over right tackle but was met at the line of scrimmage for the stop just short of the first down marker by Key, Heath Martin, and Markham. Sticking with the attack on the right side of the line of scrimmage, Miller advanced the ball to the 39-yard line to keep the drive alive. V. Benton connected with Pratt on a pass near the line of scrimmage with Pratt rambling his way down to the 26-yard line for another first down before Fields could secure the tackle. On first down D. Benton took the hand-off over right guard and was met by Markham after a 2-yard gain. Second down almost ended the hard fought drive as the ball came loose on the exchange but was recovered by the Lions. Facing third down and 10-yards, V. Benton called upon D. Benton to gain the needed yardage and connected with him with a pass near the line of scrimmage, but Key was there for the big stop after a 1-yard gain. Facing fourth down and 9-yards the Lions elected to fight for the needed yardage. V. Benton attempted a pass over the middle to D. Benton but the ball was just beyond his reach falling from his finger tips near the 5-yard line. The drive came to a halt as the ball was turned over on downs to Brilliant at their 25-yard line.

Key called his own number on first down with N. Young on the stop once again for the Lions. Facing second down and 2-yards, Key continued moving the ball to reach the Lion 47-yard line before D. Benton could make the tackle. With a new set of downs, Key advanced the ball to the Lion 33-yard line on his third consecutive keeper with N. Young making the saving tackle for the Lions. First down brought Nelson with the ball around the left side of the line of scrimmage but Austin Palmer met him for the tackle after a 6-yard gain. Key attempted a pass connection over the middle with Martin on second down but the ball was knocked away by Anthony Dillard. Dillard and Dozier met Key after a 2-yard gain to set up fourth down and 2-yards at the 25-yard line. On fourth down the Tigers elected to fight for the needed yardage and Key attempted a pass connection with David Price but A. Second down brought a passing attempt on the left side line which was intended for Pratt but the ball fell incomplete. On third down Pratt took the hand-off and was brought down by Davis forcing M. Hubbert to line-up the backfield to punt the ball away. Hubbert's punt was fielded at the Tiger 48-yard line by Martin with Jordan White awaiting patiently for the immediate take-down.

The Tiger coaching staff elected to attack with the passing game on this possession. On first down Pratt was in position to knock the ball away but on second down Key connected thru the air deep down field with Martin who made the reception and was brought down immediately by A. Palmer at the Lion 14-yard line. Pressure by Dozier and M. Hubbert forced Key to throw the ball out of the end zone on first down. Second down brought Martin around the right side line with the hand-off but Pratt and White remained in position for no gain on the stop. Reverting back to the passing attack on third down was unsuccessful as Pratt and Miller fought their way into the backfield to apply pressure forcing key to throw the ball out of the end zone. Facing fourth down deep in the Lions red zone at the 14-yard line, the Tigers elected to continue the passing attack with Pratt knocking the ball away from the arms of Martin in the end zone. The drive came to a halt turning the ball over on downs to the Lions once again in Lion territory.

On second down Pratt advanced over right guard with the hand-off with Key, Martin and a host of others on the stop at the Tiger 47-yard line setting up third down and 1-yard. Sticking with Pratt and the rushing attack the Lions moved the ball to the 45-yard line to keep the drive alive. On second down Pratt advanced the ball deeper to the 1-yard line with Martin on the tackle setting up third down and goal at the 1-yard line. D. Second down brought Key around the left side of the line of scrimmage with a keeper but Pratt, A. Dillard and M. Hubbert made the stop after a gain of 2-yards. Facing third down and 7-yards near the 43-yard line, Key attempted a pass connection over the middle but pressure from Miller and Dozier interfered with the passing attack forcing Key to release the ball early and out of Nelsons reach. Fourth down brought another passing attack but once with pressure on Key by N. Young and Miller forcing another early release, the connection to Davis fell incomplete. The Tiger drive once again came to a halt turning the ball over to the Lions at their own 43-yard line.

Palmer made the saving tackle. Once again the Tigers couldn't control their discipline and were penalized for the third time on the night for an un sportsman-like conduct penalty moving the ball back to the Lion 24-yard line. Key was stopped by White and Marcum after a 3-yard gain on second down following pressure from Dillard, Miller and Dozier which forced him to tuck the ball and fight for yardage. Facing third down and 5 near the 11-yard line, Key found Sutliff along the right side line for the score putting the Tigers on the scoreboard with 1:06 showing on the clock. Comments from Coach Lamar Harris:
"Overall I felt as though we played a very good game. Our first drive tonight didn't exactly turn-out to produce what we were wanting with us driving down inside their red zone but we managed to hold them out of the end zone on our end of the field in their opening drive as well. I'll admit that we missed on the connections with some early passes which could have led to additional scoring opportunities, but the guys didn't give up on those plays and they surfaced later in the game. The quick score late in the second quarter was a big help for our momentum, then our defense held on their pursuing possession allowing us to get the ball back and to take it in for another score prior to halftime. There were some drives which were allowed on defense resulting in large yardage given up and you know I didn't like that. We had a small issue with the offensive line at the start of the fourth quarter, but the issues were worked out after the three consecutive penalties. We will continue working during our practices to try to find the answers with both of those issues. I have to give it to our guys though, although they allowed some yardage on defense, in the end they buckled down and held their ground only allowing for the one score. All in all I am very pleased with the efforts of the team, the conduct of our guys on the field, and I'm glad we walked off the field tonight with another win."
