Following two rushing attacks by D. Benton the Lions were facing first down and at the 33-yard line. Vess Benton called upon Anthony Dillard to advance the ball deeper and he did just that by moving the ball additional yardage for what appeared to be another quick first down deep in Titan territory but the ball was fumbled away near the end of the run with the Titans scrambling to recover the loose ball.
Mulanix brought his offensive front to the field and following to strong defensive stops by Nathan Young, Gabe Stidham and Dillard the Titans found themselves deeper in their end of the field facing third down and 19-yards from their own 12-yard line. Mulanix attempted a pass near the line of scrimmage on third down but pressure by McKain Hubbert and Parson forced and incompletion. On fourth down Jake Smith punted the ball away to set Vess Benton and the Lion offense up with excellent field position at the Titan 35-yard line.
V. Benton called upon younger brother D. Benton on first down to gain yardage. Taking the pitch-back, D. Benton followed his blockers across the line of scrimmage picking up 7-yards on first down before Michael Miller could make the solo tackle. Nathan Young fought his way to the 21-yard line for a first down by fighting his way up the middle on second down with Mulanix, Hargro, Roeder McNair and a host of other defenders on the stop. A. Palmer took the pitch-out on first down and rambled around the right end of the line of scrimmage for a 6-yard gain with C. Lake on the stop for the Titans. Lake with the carry but K. Parson was in position for the tackle in the back field resulting in a 4-yard loss. C. Lake was called upon again to advance the ball taking the hand-off around the left side of the line of scrimmage with A. Palmer and Zack Reeves making the stop for the Lions. Facing third down and 3-yards, C. Lake attempted another rushing attack but N. Young made the stop immediately near the line of scrimmage leaving the Titans facing fourth down and 2-yards. A. Palmer dropped back to receive the punt from Smith but the ball rolled dead at the 24-yard line.

Comments from Head Coach Lamar Harris:
"The guys played somewhat sluggish tonight. We got off to a sluggish start and that's not the way we want to start out playing our games this season. We were not as sharp as we'd like to have been and that is something that we will have to address this week during our practices. Although we got off to an early lead, playing sluggish can never be a good thing. We are early in the season and we're playing a lot of new players in different positions, but we can't allow sluggish play to continue if we want to meet our team goals. I'm thankful that we got the early lead in the game and I'm thankful that we had the opportunity to play several of our players who have worked so hard in our practices. We can build on some of the things we did tonight with the younger guys.  In the end it was great to get the win..... Region play will begin next week and we've got to be prepared because it won't be an easy road in our Region, the road only gets harder for the guys and that's something we have to instill in them early. We've got to get prepared as a team for the next game and I'm thankful that we have the week ahead of us to practice and address some of the issues from tonight's game."
