Benton was met at the line of scrimmage on second down for no-gain setting up third down and five. A. Benton got the call to carry the ball advancing over left guard for two-yards where Justin Grzala and Rivers Bowling made the tackle. Following a penalty against the Lions for an illegal procedure, Vess Benton connected thru the air with younger brother D. Benton in the backfield, with D. Benton racing across mid-field to the Wildcat 32-yard line where he was knocked out of bounds by Grzala. First down brought Young over right guard for three-yards with Foster and others on the stop. Benton went to the air attack connecting with Gabe Stidham who rambled his way to the end zone for the first touchdown of the night. Comments from Head Coach Lamar Harris:
"I thought both teams came out tonight and played really well, although we found ourselves making some mental mistakes which resulted in costly penalties throughout the game tonight. Those penalties were a big cost to our offensive game plan for the game tonight.  I'm not at all satisfied with that portion of our game, but I am proud of the guys for their tenacity for "gutting it out" and for finding the will to fight on and find a way to secure our win. It wasn't the best way to win a game by any means, but the guys kept their heads on their shoulders and pulled the victory out in the end. I think the fans had an exciting game and I was proud of the support gave to our kids from the stands. We are looking forward to a week of intense practices and looking forward to facing another regional game next Friday night. We've got to regroup and work to correct our costly mistakes which resulted in well over 100 yards in penalties. That's just not our team. Putting yourself in those situations can become costly during any given game and we just don't need to put ourselves in that type of situation. I have the confidence in this group of guys and I know we can work to overcome those penalty issues and we will focus on doing just that in the week of preparations ahead."
