The Hubbertville Lions rebounded from last weeks disheartening defeat by pounding the points on the visiting Titans of Holy Spirit.  After winning the coin toss and electing to receive the opening kick-off, the Lions wasted little time moving the ball down field to score the first points of the evening.

Following the 28-yard opening kick return by Dillon Tucker, the Lion offense lined up at their own 43-yard line to start their opening possession.  After an off-side penalty on the Titans, Aaron Dillard took the hand-off from Jake McCollum and raced around the right side of the line of scrimmage before cutting back across the middle of the field and advancing to the Titan 30-yard line where Ryan Harris sprinted down field saving the touchdown for Holy Spirit.  After short yardage gain by Hunter O'Mary, A. Dillard took the hand-off and rushed around the right side again, cutting back across the middle of the field and fought his way into the end zone bouncing off would be tacklers as he crossed the goal for the quick score for the Lions.  Although A. Dillard lined up to kick the extra point on the PAT, McCollum who was serving as holder took the snap and passed the ball to the endzone connecting with O'Mary for the two point conversion giving the Lions an early lead in the contest with 10:10 showing on the first quarter clock.

A. Dillard's ensuing kick to the Titans was fielded at the Titan 40-yard line where the Titan receiver was met immediately by Mikey McCraw for the hard stop forcing the ball to come a loose with McCraw scrambling his way to recover the fumble for the Lions.  McCollum returned under center at the Titan 40-yard line and on first down handed the ball off to O'Mary who fought his way to the 28-yard line setting up excellent field position for the Lions before Logan Kirkland could make the saving stop for Holy Spirit.  Sticking with the running attack, D. Tucker and Dylan Dillard moved the ball to the 19-yard line setting up fourth down and 1 for the Lions.  O'Mary got the call to gain the yardage and did just that by rushing up the middle for the first down.  After a measurement the Lions were pumped up and rushing carries by A. Dillard, D. Tucker and O'Mary brought the Lions facing fourth down and 3 at the 11-yard line.  A. Dillard took the hand-off from McCollum and rushed over the right offensive line for the score with 4:53 remaining in the first quarter.  A. Dillard's kick was off to the left of the PAT attempt and the Lions held their lead 14-0.

Logan Sparks received A. Dillard's ensuing kick at the 37-yard line and fumbled the ball but Derrick Garnett was on the spot and made the recover for Holy Spirit at their own 39-yard line.  Conner Almond took the reigns as head signal caller for the Titans and on first down went to the air connecting with Stephen Pereyda who rushed across mid-field to the Lion 47-yard line where D. Tucker made the stop for the Lions.  On first down, Almond handed the ball off to Harris who took the ball to the outside and down the left side lines where McCollum made the stop for the Lions at the 30-yard line.  With a new set of downs, Almond reverted back to the passing game connecting with Pereyda who scrambled to the Lion 14-yard line where McCollum once again made the saving stop.  First down brought John Washington with the carry over left tackle but O'Mary and McCraw made the stop after a 1-yard gain.  Almond reverted back to the passing attack on second down with a pass in the back field to Harris who rushed to the end zone for a 13-yard touch down reception.  On the PAT, Nathan Grissom smoothly booted the ball thru the uprights and the Titans were on the scoreboard.

D. Tucker took the ensuing kick from Grissom at the 15-yard line and rushed up field but penalty flags against the Lions moved the ball back to the 20-yard line to set-up McCollum and company for another offensive drive.  Sticking with the ground attack, A. Dillard, O'Mary and D. Dillard took turns moving the ball up field to the 30-yard line as the first quarter closed.  D. Dillard and D. Tucker continued the rushing attack moving the ball to mid-field, where A. Dillard took the hand-off and brutally burst his way across the line of scrimmage to the Titan 43-yard line where Tim Jenkins finally made the tackle.  First down brought O'Mary with the carry for a 1-yard gain.  D. Dillard rushed around the right side on second down but was met after a 3-yard gain by Alex Lavoy for the Titan stop.  Facing third down and 6, McCollum tired to connect with D. Tucker but the pass was incomplete.  McCollum took a hit on the play and the Titan's were penalized for roughing the passer, giving Hubbertville a first down at the Titan 24-yard line.  On first down, A. Dillard tripped up at the line of scrimmage but managed a 1-yard gain on the carry.  Determined to find his way into the end zone again, A. Dillard did just that with the hand-off from McCollum making his third touchdown of the night.  The PAT attempt brought two more points as the Lions faked the kick with O'Mary converting with another reception in the end zone.

A. Dillard stuck with the kicking chores for the Lions with Pereyda and Logan Kirkland lining up deep to receive the ball for the Titans.  Dillards kick was short with the Titan receiver signaling for a fair-catch near the 40-yard line but the ball was fumbled on the reception, however the Titans did manage to recover the ball setting up first down at their 37-yard line.  First down brought more misery for the Titans as the ball was fumbled on the exchange, but once again the Titans recovered the loose ball.  On second down, Almond connected with Sparks who raced up field to the 49-yard line where McCollum made the tackle for the Lions.  Harris was met in the backfield for a 3-yard loss on second down as D. Tucker broke thru the line for the tackle.  Reverting back to the passing attack, Almond connected with Pereyda near the right sidelines where he was forced out of bounds by D. Tucker after a 5-yard gain.  Almond handed the ball off to Carter Harrison on third down with Harrison fighting his way up the middle, where O'Mary and Colby Ellis made the tackle for the Lions.  Facing fourth down and a long 2-yards, Washington was called upon to gain the needed yardage but Wade Tidwell burst across the line bringing Washington quickly to the ground for the tackle and giving the Lions the ball on downs at their own 46-yard line.

On first down McCollum connected with A. Dillard who scrambled for a 9-yard gain.  After a penalty flag on second down penalized the Lions for illegal procedure, the replay of downs brought D. Dillard up the middle to set-up third down and inches near the Titan 46-yard line.  A. Dillard took the hand-off and rushed around the right side of the line of scrimmage to gain yardage setting up another set of downs for the Lions at the 41-yard line.  D. Dillard gained an additional 4-yards on first down with a carry around the left line before Harris could make the stop.  McCollum attempted to connect with Corey Stewart thru the air on second down but the ball fell incomplete.  Harris broke his way across the line of scrimmage on the next snap and brought McCollum down in the backfield for a 2-yard loss.  Facing fourth down and 8, McCollum completed a pass connection with McCraw who fought his way to the 32-yard line but Harris and a host of defenders made the stop prior to McCraw reaching the first down marker.

With a turn-over on downs, Almond connected with Pereyda on a short pass in the backfield with Pereyda attempting to pitch the ball out to Christopher Davis, but the ball was fumbled and the Lions recovered at the Titan 37-yard line with 24.1 seconds remaining in the first half of play.  First down brought A. Dillard around the right side lines and out of bounds near the 30-yard line.  Following the play the Titans were penalized for a personal foul moving the ball to the 16-yard line.  A. Dillard then took the hand-off and scrambled to the 14-yard line where a mob of angry Titans made the stop.  With 7.2 seconds remaining, Coach Lamar Harris called on A. Dillard to continue his kicking abilities with a field goal attempt.  Dillard's kick was perfect as time expired on the first half and the Lions headed to the locker room with a 25-7 lead.

The Titan's lined up to receive the second half opening kick with Pereyda and Kirkland back to receive at their 20-yard line.  Once again A. Dillard's kick was bobbled and fumbled by Washington but recovered by Tim Jenkins at the 38-yard line to save the possession for the Titan offense.  But tragedy hit on first down as Almond attempted to pass to Pereyda but D. Tucker stepped in front of the pass and rushed 46-yards to the end zone behind excellent blocking by Colby Ellis and Landon Miller to add six more points for Hubbertville.  The PAT attempt, A. Dillards kick sailed perfectly thru the uprights and the Lions lead increased to 32-7.

Washington again fielded A. Dillards kick but this time he managed to hang on to the ball as W. Tidwell and McCraw made the immediate tackle for the Lions at the 24-yard line.  O'Mary and Ellis made the tackle on David after a 2-yard gain on first down.  Second down brought Harris out of the backfield rushing down the right side line where David Aldridge made the saving stop for the Lions.  WIth a new set of downs at the Lion 49-yard line, Almond reverted back to the passing attack trying to connect with David deep down field but the ball was just off his finger tips with McCollum under coverage for the Lions.  Second down brought Harris with the carry but he was met by a host of Lions who forced him to fumble the ball but the Titans were able to recover near the line of scrimmage.  On third down, Kirkland took the hand-off from Almond but McCraw and Miller were on the spot for the Lions to bring him down after a 1-yard gain.  Facing fourth down and 9 at the Lion 48-yard line, the Titans elected to go for the yardage and Almond's pass sent the ball sailing over the hands of Kirkland, with Aldridge under cover for the Lions.

Turning the ball over to the Lions on downs, the Titan defense continued seeing the rushing attack coming from A. Dillard and D. Dillard with the Dillard combination moving the ball down to the Titan 20-yard line.  With a new set of downs at the 20-yard line, McCollum connected with D. Tucker for a 5-yard reception.  D. Tucker then took the hand-off from McCollum and pushed his way over the right side of the line of scrimmage for a 3-yard gain before Kirkland could make the stop.  A. Dillard took the ball to the 6-yard line on the next carry setting up first down and goal for the Lions.  With the snap of the ball, A. Dillard once again found himself standing in the end zone for another score with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter of play.  The PAT attempt, kick by A. Dillard sailed perfectly down the center of the goals and the Lion lead was building at 39-7.

Back deep to receive for the Titan's, Pereyda fielded A. Dillards kick at the 26-yard line and raced out to the 38-yard line where Miller made the tackle for Hubbertville.  McCraw continued his own field presence with great defensive stands on first down and second down holding David to a 1-yard gain but penalty flags against the Titans for a personal foul added additional yardage loss for the Titans moving the ball back to the 26-yard line and setting up third down.  Almond connected with David on a short pass on third down but once again McCraw along with O'Mary made a quick stop for the Lions at the 32-yard line as time expired on the quarter.  Facing fourth down and 15-yards from their own 34-yard line the Titan's punted the ball away.  D. Dillard fielded the ball at the 36-yard line and advanced up field fighting off would be tacklers reaching the 33-yard line of the Titan's before the stop could be made to save another touchdown for the Lions.

Lion Head Coach Lamar Harris called for a time-out and started sending in substitutions with D. Dillard lining up to relieve McCollum at Quarterback.  First down brought A. Dillard over the right side of the line of scrimmage for an 8-yard gain.  On second down, penalty flags pushed the ball back 5-yards as the Lions were penalized for illegal procedure.  Dillon Tucker took the hand-off from D. Dillard on third down and was met immediately for the stop by Braden Harris.  Facing fourth down and 6-yards at the Titan 29-yard line, Corey Stewart was called upon to carry the ball advancing for what appeared to be a first down but following official measurement the ball was spotted just inches short of the first down marker giving the ball back to the Titans on downs.

Colby Ellis broke his way across the line of scrimmage and brought Washington down in the backfield for a 2-yard loss on first down.  On second down, Almond was intercepted by McCollum who took the ball 62-yards to the end zone for what appeared to be another touchdown, but a penalty against the Lions moved the ball back to the Lion 25-yard line.  Stewart took the hand-off from D. Dillard and advanced over left tackle for a 5-yard gain before Jenkins could make the stop.  Blair Thomas and L. Sparks broke thru the offensive line and brought D. Tucker down in the backfield for a 3-yard loss to set up third down and 13-yards for the Lions.  Stewart attempted another rushing attempt but was met at the line of scrimmage by Harris for the tackle.  Facing fourth down and 14, D. Dillard called his own number and rushed up field where he was tripped up, stumbling down at the 25-yard line to turn the ball over on downs to the Titans.

Although the Titan's worked feverishly to move the ball across mid-field to the Lion 42-yard line they were unable to capitalize on the possession as time expired.  The long night came to a rest and the Lions found themselves back on the winning track with a 39-7 victory.  The Lions will face another tuff regional battle as the Lynn Bears come visiting Wiley Hollingsworth Stadium on Friday night.  The Bears are undefeated and will bring a rumptous fight to the Lions as they hope to continue their lead in Region 7.   Game time is 7pm.

Comments from Coach Lamar Harris:

"We stuck with our game plan and followed it with some minor adjustments.  The guys really bounced back after a heartening loss last week.  I was glad to see that they had that determination and focus and I'm really proud of the way that they've stuck together and remained focused as a team.  We still have goals to met and still have lots of playing time left to accomplish those goals.  Tonight we managed to get the game in our control early in the first quarter with the quick scoring drives and I think that was a big boost for the overall team.  I'm proud of our effort tonight and I'm looking forward to the effects of tonight's win continuing with the guys on the practice field next week."
