Facing the Lynn Bears for the second time in only a week, the Hub Junior Varsity found the task at hand as difficult as their previous match-up which took place last Monday night.  Facing a much larger line and backfield the Junior Lions fought hard and the out-come of the game was quite different than the earlier match-up.

Serving as Captains for the Lions were Vess Benton and Blayke Hill.  Following the coin toss the Lions lined up to receive the opening kick-off to get the game underway.  The Bears kicker booted the ball to the 22-yard line where Gabe Stidham made the reception returning the ball up the middle of the field setting up first down for the Lions just beyond mid-field.  First down brought Dakota Dozier with the carry advancing up field for anther first down for the Lions.  With a new set of downs Quarterback Vess Benton called his own number and advanced the ball inside the 10-yard line.  Second down brought Brandon Pinkard with the carry rushing over right guard where he was brought down near the 4-yard line.  Facing third down and goal, Pinkard continued the march and carried the ball to the end zone with 5:57 showing on the clock.  On the PAT attempt, the pass to D. Dozier in the end zone fell incomplete to leave the Lions with a 6-0 lead early in the game.

McCain Hubberts ensuing kick sent the ball spiraling to the 27-yard line where the Lynn receiver rushed up field breaking would be tacklers and racing his way into the end zone to answer the early Lion threat.  On the PAT attempt the Bears attempt the two point conversion but Nathan Young and D. Dozier was on the spot to make the stop bringing the Bear carrier to the ground in the backfield.  With 5:39 remaining in the first quarter of play the game stood at a tie, 6-6.

G. Stidham received the ensuing kick and gained 10-yards before being brought down at the 39-yard line.  On first down, Benton advanced around the right to gain 3-yards.  Second down brought Young with the carry for the Lions around the left side where he was met by a host of Bears for the stop but not before gaining yardage for a first down at the Bears 49-yard line.  First down brought penalty flags against the Bears for an off-sides infraction giving the Lions a replay of the down at the Bears 44-yard line.  Pinkard was met at the line for the stop and no gain on the replay setting up second down and 5-yards for the Lions.  Benton was sacked on second down with the ball coming loose but Pinkard was there to recover the ball for the Lions.  Facing third down and 9-yards, Benton went to the air and attempted a pass connection with D. Dozier but the pass fell incomplete setting up fourth down.  Hubbert was sent on the field to punt the ball away on fourth down with the ball rolling dead at the Bears 27-yard line.

First down for the Bears brought a high snap but the loose ball was recovered in the backfield by the Bears.  Facing second down and 14-yards the Bears stuck with the running game and advanced the ball around the left side of the line of scrimmage where Austin Bourland and a host of defenders made the stop.  The stop brought the Bears to the line of scrimmage in need of 11-yards to keep the drive alive so they reverted to the passing game with a connection made deep down field but after the completion the receiver fumbled the ball trying to gain additional yardage.  The Lions recovered to fumble and took over command of the drive at their own 47-yard line.

First down brought D. Dozier with a carry up the middle for another set of downs gaining yardage to the Bear 38-yard line.  Young took the hand-off from Benton on second down and advanced over left tackle for an additional 4-yards.  On second down the Lions fumbled the ball away to the Bears with a mishandle on the exchange.  First down brought the rushing attack around the right side of the line of scrimmage where a host of defenders made the stop after a 2-yard gain as the first quarter of  play came to a close.

On second down, the Bears reverted to the passing attack where they connected to gain an additional 3-yards but Peyton McDonald and Reed Jones made the stop for the Lions to set up third down and 5-yards.  Sticking with the passing attack, the Bear Quarterback attempted another connection but the ball fell incomplete to set up fourth down.  The Bears lined-up and punted the ball away to the Lions with the ball rolling dead at the Lions 17-yard line.

On first down the Lions were penalized for illegal procedure.  On the replay of downs, misery continued for the Lions as Benton was picked-off at the Lion 40-yarde line to give the Bears excellent field position.  First down brought the rushing attempt up the middle but Bourland and Hill were on the spot stopping the runner behind the line of scrimmage for a 2-yard loss.  Bourland continued his presence on the field by making the sack on the Bears Quarterback on second down setting up third down and 13-yards at the 43-yard line.  On third down, the Bears Quarterback attempted to connect thru the air but the pass was incomplete deep down field.  Facing fourth down and 13-yards, the Punter was called on to punt the ball away to the Lions with the ball received by Stidham at the 19-yard line.

First down brought Pinkard on the rushing attack straight up the middle of the field but he was stopped in the backfield for a 2-yard loss.  On second down, the Lions were penalized for an illegal procedure setting up a replay of down at the 12-yard line.  D. Dozier took the hand-off from Benton and scampered his way around the right side of the line of scrimmage for a 5-yard gain on the replay to set up third down.  Benton connected thru the air hitting D. Dozier for the completion setting up fourth down and inches for the Lions.  On fourth down, Benton on a keeper advanced up field to the Lion 34-yard line to regain momentum for the drive but however the Lions were penalized once again on first down for movement setting up first down and 15-yards at the 29-yard line.  Benton attempted a pass connection with Stidham on first down but the pass was incomplete.  Second down brought Benton with a keeper around the left side of the field advancing to the 39-yard line before being tackled leaving the Lions at third down and 5-yards.  Benton went back to the air and connected with Pinkard who rushed around the right side of the line advancing to the Bear 45-yard line before being brought down.  Sticking with the air attack, Benton went for a pass over the middle to D. Dozier but the ball fell incomplete setting up second down.  Sticking with D. Dozier, Benton made the same attack with his passing arm but the ball again fell incomplete.  Facing third down, Benton went back to the air attack attempting to connect with Stidham along the left side lines but again the ball fell incomplete.  Hubbert was sent to the field to punt the ball away on fourth down, but the ball was snapped to Benton who smoothly connected with Tyler Wright, with Wright advancing to the Bear 35-yard line for the first down.

On first down Benton continued the passing attack but his attempt to connect with Stidham was incomplete.  On second down Benton connected thru the air with Young who raced to the 17-yard line before being tackled.  First down brought more of the passing attack from Benton but his attempt to connect with Young again was unsuccessful near the right side lines.  On second down, Benton attempted a pass to Kamron Smith but the ball fell incomplete again.  Facing third and 10-yards at the 17-yard line the Lions reverted back to the rushing attack with Pinkard taking the hand-off and racing up field close to the first down marker near the 7-yard line.  After measurement by the officials the Lions were setting deep in the Bears red zone with a new set of downs.  First down brought Benton around the right side where he was met near the line of scrimmage for no gain.  With time running out in the half the clock became an issue for the Lions.  On second down the Lions were penalized for movement giving them on more opportunity to reach pay dirt.  On the replay of downs, Benton was brought down behind the line of scrimmage for a sack allowing time to expire and giving the Bears heavy momentum as they headed into the locker room at the half time break with the score tied up at 6-6.

Hubbert lined-up and booted the second half opening kick down to the 22-yard line with the receiver advancing the ball to the 30-yard line before being stopped by a host of Lions.  First down brought the rushing attack up the middle where Bourland, Wright and Hill made the stop.  Facing second down and 4-yards, the Bears stuck with the rushing attack with the runner advancing over right guard where Young and a host of defenders brought him down at the 46-yard line.   With a new set of downs, the Bears continued the rushing attack with the ball carrier advancing up the middle where Brandon Smith and Kris Parson made the stop for the Lions.  On second down the rushing attack continued with the runner advancing around the left side of the line of scrimmage where D. Dozier and Wright made the tackle.  With another first down at the Lion 45-yard line, the rushing attack continued with the ball carrier coming around the right side of the line of scrimmage with Young, K. Smith and a host of defenders making the stop.  Second down brought the rushing attack up the middle where Hill, Bourland and host made the stop at the Lion 31-yard line.  With a new set of downs, the Bears continued with the rushing attack but penalty flags moved the ball back to the Lion 35-yard line and a replay of the down.  On the replay of down, K. Smith broke up a pass which would have gained the penalty yardage back for the Bears.  Second down brought the Bear ball carrier on the sweep around the left side of the field but the Lion defenders were there to hold their ground setting up third down and 7-yards.  On third down the Bears continued running the ball to the left side of the field and gained yardage for another set of downs before Hill was able to make the stop at the Lion 15-yard line.  First down brought the rush up the middle but Pinkard made the stop for the Lions.  Facing second down and 5-yards, the Bears reverted to rushing the ball to the left side of the field with the ball carrier rushing his way into the end zone to give the Bears the lead.  On the PAT attempt, the Bear Quarterback attempted to rush to the end zone with a keeper but B. Smith, Bourland and Parson were there to hold him out for no additional points.  With 3:22 remaining in the third quarter the score stood 12-6 in favor of the Bears.

R. Jones received the ensuing kick at the 38 yard line and rushed out to the 44-yard line where he was met for the stop.  Benton on a keeper advanced around the left side of the field but a penalty flag returned the ball to the Lion 35-yard line for holding.  Facing first down and 20-yards from their own 35-yard line D. Dozier took the hand-off from Benton and scampered around the right side of the line of scrimmage before cutting back across the middle where he was met for the stop by a host of angry Bear defenders.  Facing second down and 16-yards, Benton went to the air attempting a connection with Austin Palmer but the ball fell incomplete.  On third down, Pinkard took the hand-off and was met after short yardage gain for the stop.  Hubbert was sent to the field to punt the ball away with the ball rolling dead at the Bears 35-yard line.

On first down the Bears continued with their vicious rushing attack up the middle where D. Dozier and Bourland made the stop after a 5-yard gain.  On second down the Bear ball carrier was brought down behind the line by Hill and Bourland for a 6-yard loss as the third quarter came to a close.  Facing third down and 7-yards at the 38-yard line, the Bears were penalized for an illegal procedure infraction moving the ball back to the 33-yard line.  The penalty didn't seem to phase the Bears as with the snap of the ball the Bears set up a screen play with a pass to a receiver who rushed around the end into the end zone with 7:44 remaining in the game.  The PAT attempt was effective as well with the ball carrier rushing untouched into the end zone for the two point conversion building the score to a 20-6 lead for the Bears.

The ensuing kick was fielded by Pinkard at the 28-yard line and advanced up to the 38-yard line where he was brought down by a host of defenders.  On first down, D. Dozier took the hand off and scampered over left guard for a 2-yard gain.  Second down brought Benton passing to Young but the ball fell incomplete.  Penalty flags against the Bears for interference advanced to ball to the Bears 47-yard line setting up another first down for the Lions.  Sticking with the passing attack, Benton attempted a connection with Young again but the pass was incomplete setting up second down.  Benton on a keeper advanced the ball to the 22-yard line where he was chased out of bounds.  First down brought Pinkard up the middle where a host of defenders met him for the stop after short yardage gain.  On second down Benton went back to the air attack attempting to connect with Palmer but the pass was incomplete.  On third down Benton was brought down behind the line for another sack just short of the 25-yard line.  Facing fourth down and short field, the Lions elected to go for the first down but Benton's pass to Palmer fell incomplete to turn the ball over on downs to the Bears.

First down brought the Bear runner around the right side of the line of scrimmage with Bourland making the stop for the Lions with a two yard loss.  Facing second down and 12-yards at the 22-yard line the Bears stuck with the rushing attack and attacked the middle of the field with D. Dozier and Hill bringing the runner down after a 5-yard gain.  On third down the runner continued attacking the middle and D. Dozier, Hill and Bourland held their ground making the stop after a 3-yard gain.  Facing fourth down and 4-yards deep in their own territory, the Bears decided to punt the ball away with Stidham back to receive for the Lions.

Stidham made a diving catch to make the reception and set up the Lion offense at mid-field.  First down brought Pinkard on the rushing attack up the middle for an 8-yard gain.  On second down, Benton connected with Stidham over the middle advancing the ball to the Bear 30-yard line.  With a new set of downs, Benton stuck with the passing attack but his pass to Young fell incomplete to bring up second down.  Pinkard took the hand-off and rushed around the right side of the line of scrimmage for a 4-yard gain before being tackled to set up third down and 6-yards for the Lion offense.  Sticking with the rushing attack, Benton handed the ball off again to Pinkard who followed his blockers around the right side of the line of scrimmage again and rushed down field to the 20-yard line before being tackled to set up another set of downs for the Lions.  With time running off the clock quickly the Lions were pushed into the rush mode and on first down Benton was intercepted near the 5-yard line with only 43.3 seconds remaining in the game.

First down brought the Bear rushing attack up the middle but the Lion defenders met him behind the line for a 2-yard loss moving the ball closer to the goal line.  Facing second down and 12-yards deep in Lion territory, the Bears allowed time to expire leaving the field with a 20-6 victory over the visiting Lions.
