The Hubbertville Lions made their first road trip of the season by traveling into Lamar County to face the Stallions of South Lamar. The match-up was the first Region game for both teams.  The Stallions received the opening kick from Aaron Dillard setting up first down at their own 22 yard line.  Quarterback Jordan Smith brought his offensive front to the field and following three downs with no yardage gained, found himself lined-up to boot the ball away to the Lions.
Corey Stewart fielded the ball with a fair catch at the Lion 45-yard line where Aaron Dillard and the Lion offense wasted little time moving down field.  On first down Cole Trull burst across the line of scrimmage making the stop of Dillard for a 5-yard loss.  After a penalty against the Lions on second down for an illegal procedure, Dillard rushed around the right side line for a 23-yard gain before being chased down for the saving stop by Hank Parker.  With a new set of downs, Dillard handed the ball off to Corey Stewart who was met by Tremaine Washington after a 1-yard gain.   Second down brought Hunter O'Mary with the carry rushing over right guard where a host of Stallions made the stop at the 12 yard line after a 5-yard gain.  Dillard called his own number once again and picked up the first down moving the ball just inside the 5-yard line with Parker and Blake Mitchell saving the score.  O'Mary took the hand-off and rushed up the middle for the opening drive score with 7:31 showing on the clock.  The PAT kick by Dillard, with David Aldridge holding, was perfect and the Lions were first to light up the score board.
Dillards ensuing kick was recovered by Lion David Aldridge at the Stallions 40-yard line giving the Lions another opportunity early in the game.  Dillard was met by Parker for the stop on first down after a 2-yard gain.  Parker made the stop on O'Mary on second down after another 2-yard gain.  Facing third down and 6, Stewart took the hand-off and rushed around the end where he was met by Avery Ward short of the first down marker.  Facing fourth down and 1 at the Stallion 31-yard line, the Lions elected to go for the short yardage but Dillard was met by Willingham and a host of angry Stallions who made the stop turning the ball over on downs.
The Stallions wasted little time reversing the field position.  On first down, Blake Mitchell carried the ball for a 5-yard gain with Landon Miller making the stop.  Second down brought Mitchell again rushing around the right side of the line of scrimmage where Blayke Hill made the tackle after a 2-yard gain.  Facing third down and 3, Parker was called up on to carry the ball picking up a new set of downs for the Stallions at 41-yard line.  With a new set of downs, Smith went to the air attack connecting with Greg Posley at the Lion 43-yard line with David Aldridge and Dillard making the tackle.  On first down Smith went to the air again with the same tactic but the pass fell incomplete.  Second down was beneficial for the Stallions as Posley took the hand-off and scampered 43-yards to the end zone for the score with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter of play.  Following the PAT kick by Tyler Riley, with Trent Wilson holding, the game stood tied.
Riley booted the ball down field to the 21-yard line where Jordan White made the reception and returned to the 32-yard line where Posley made the stop for the Stallions.  Stewart took the hand-off on first down and gained 6-yards with Zach Foster making the tackle.  Facing second down and 2, Dillard connected on a pass with Aldridge who scampered his across midfield to the Stallion 45-yard line where Blake Mitchell made the saving stop.  O'Mary took the ball to the 38-yard line for a 6-yard gain with Willingham making the tackle.  Dillard on a keeper advanced to the 33-yard line where Willingham and Holden Fields made the stop, but not before giving the Lions enough yardage for the first down.  Following a rush by Stewart and a penalty against the Stallions for off-sides, Dillard rushed 19-yards to the end zone finishing off the drive with a touchdown.  Following the PAT kick by Dillard the Lions were back on top with only .55 remaining in the first quarter.
Dillard's ensuing kick was short with the Stallions fielding the ball at the 43-yard line.  First down brought Posley up the middle where Jordan White made the saving tackle after a 21-yard rushing gain.  Parker took the hand-off on the next snap and rushed up the middle for a 17-yard gain before O'Mary and a host of Lions made the stop.  Reverting back to the air attack, Smith connected with Parker who was brought down by Jordan Wyma at the 13-yard line as the quarter came to a close.  Blake Mitchell got the call on first down but was stopped short of the end zone by Blayke Hill near the 2-yard line.  Parker took the ball to the end zone on the next snap and following the PAT kick by Riley the score was tied once again with 11:47 remaining in the first half of play.
Dillard, Stewart and White were back to receive for the Lions and Riley's kick was fielded at the 22-yard line by Stewart who advanced up field for what appeared to be good yardage for the Lion offense.  A penalty against the Lions moved the ball back to the 17-yard line where Stewart took the hand-off on first down and rushed around the right side of the line of scrimmage to the 32-yard line setting up another set of downs.  Dillard took the ball 9-yards on the next down where Nick Patrick and Blake Mitchell made the stop.  O'Mary was held for no gain by Willingham on second down but on third down, Dillard burst his way up the middle across midfield to the Stallion 47-yard line giving the Lion offense additional field time.  O'Mary got the call to carry again and scrambled up the middle of the line bursting free before Zach Foster and Canaan Fleming could make the saving tackle at the 28-yard line.  Not to be out done, O'Mary got the call to carry again and with the snap of the ball found rushed into the end zone untouched for his second score of the evening.  The PAT appeared to be a kick by Dillard, but Aldridge who was holder on the kicking attempt scooped the ball up and passed to O'Mary who advanced across the goal line untouched for the two point conversion.  With 8:34 remaining the Lions regained their lead 22-17.
The Lion coaching staff hoped to catch the Stallion kicking team off guard with another onside kick but the Stallions were prepared with Luke Trull making the cover at the Stallion 49-yard line.  First down brought Smith down in the backfield with Wyma and Hill making the sack for the Lions.  Second down brought pressure again with Devin Marcum forcing Smith to throw the ball out of the playing field.  Following the play the Lions were penalized for a face-mask infraction moving the ball to the Lion 35 and setting the Stallion offense up with excellent field position.  On first down Parker was brought down by Wyma and Hill after a 4-yard gain.  Smith connected with Beeksma on second down for a first down at the 20-yard line.  Following a penalty for an illegal procedure, the Stallions were facing first down and 15-yards from the 25-yard line.  Smith called his own number on first down and was brought down behind the line by Dillard for a 1-yard loss.  On second down, Smith connected thru the air with Parker who advanced to the 21-yard line where Wyma and Aldridge made the stop.  Facing third down and 11, Smith stuck with the passing attack connecting with Parker over the middle for the score with 4:35 remaining in the first half of play.  Following an unsuccessful two point conversion attempt and a penalty against the Stallions the score stood 22-20 in favor of the Lions.
Corey Stewart advanced the ensuing kick from Riley from the 32-yard line to the Lion 48-yard line where Cole Trull made the stop to saving a kickoff return touchdown.  First down brought O'Mary once again up the middle for a 5-yard gain with Jason Lawson on the stop. Parker met Dillard at the line of scrimmage for no-gain on second down and Stewart was stopped by Trull, Posley and Riley on third down setting up fourth down and short for the Lions.  O'Mary was called upon to punt the ball away.  Blake Mitchell fielded the ball at the 13-yard line and was met for the stop at the 21-yard line by White and Austin Palmer.
First down brought Posley with the carry up the middle with Aldridge making the stop for the Lions.  Following the play the Stallions were penalized for holding moving the ball to the 11-yard line.  Smith with a keeper advanced to the 30-yard line where Stewart made the tackle setting up second down and 1.  Smith called his own number once again but the Stallions were penalized again for holding setting up second down and 15 at the 16-yard line.  Following a high snap which was recovered by Smith at the 3-yard line, Smith reverted to the passing game and attempted a connection with Parker but the ball fell incomplete setting up fourth down.  Kyle Aldridge was called up on to punt the ball away lining up at the back of the end zone.
Stewart signaled for a fair catch fielding the ball at the Stallion 37-yard line with only 11 seconds remaining in the first half.  Stewart took the hand-off on first down and gained 5-yards before Trull made the stop.  With only .04 seconds remaining, Dillard went deep with a passing attempt in the end zone which fell incomplete settling the half-time score at 22-20 in favor of the Lions.
Returning to the field following the half-time break the Lions received the kick to start the second half of play.  Riley's kick sailed out of bounds at the 26-yard line, placing the ball at the Lion 35-yard line for Dillard and his offense.  On first down Dillard took the ball down field to the Stallion 49-yard line.  Following two downs with miscues from the Stallion defensive front the Lions were setting on the Stallions 30-yard line.  Dillard was brought down behind the line by Parker and Ward for a two yard loss on first down but on second down he advanced the ball around the right side of the line of scrimmage to the 18-yard line where Ward made the tackle.  O'Mary got the call on second down and advanced to the 10-yard line where Ward once again made the saving tackle.  Facing second down and 2, Stewart took the hand-off and was met at the line by Willingham and a host of others for no gain.  On third down the Stallions defense led by Parker and Posley made a stand once again holding Dillard for no gain to bring up fourth down and 2 at the 11-yard line.  O'Mary got the call to move the chains and rushed to the 6-yard line giving the Lion offense another set of downs.  Dillard called his own number and rushed up the middle to the 3-yard line where Marquis Mitchell and a host of defenders made the stop.  O'Mary took the hand-off from Dillard and advanced up the middle for his third touchdown of the evening with 5:44 remaining in the third quarter.  Following a penalty by the Lions on the PAT, Dillard lined up to re-kick but the kick was no good leaving the score at 28-20.
Dillards ensuing kick was fielded at the 35-yard line by a fair catch signal.  Following a personal foul infraction on the Stallions the ball was placed at the 20-yard line setting up the Stallion offensive front.  Smith took the ball around the left side lines and following the play the Lions were penalized for a personal foul infraction setting the Stallions up just short of midfield.  Landon Miller burst his way across the line and into the backfield to bring Blake Mitchell down for a 7-yard loss on first down.  Second down brought Posley with a rushing attack for a 5-yard gain with Dakota Dozier on the stop for the Lions.  Facing third down and 11-yards from their own 46-yard line, Smith connected thru the air with Beeksma but after advancing Beeksma fumbled the ball and Jordan White chased the ball down recovering it for the Lions at the Stallion 39-yard line.
Dillard and the Lion offense returned with a first down deep in Stallion territory.  Dillard rushed up the middle for 8-yards on first down and connected with David Aldridge on a pass to advance the ball inside the Stallion red zone at the 6-yard line.  O'Mary finished the drive with a 6-yard rush up the middle.  The two point conversion pass attempt from Aldridge was incomplete and with 2:53 remaining the Lion lead was steady at 34-20.
The Stallions started their next possession from the 15-yard line as a result of miscommunication among the Stallion players on the ensuing kick as one player had signaled for a fair catch and another one fielding and advancing the ball up field for what appeared to be excellent field position.  On first down, Posley advanced over left guard with Hill and Wyma making the stop for the Lions.  Following the play the Lions were penalized for a face mask penalty moving the ball to the Stallion 33-yard line.  Smith went deep with a passing attempt to Canaan Fleming on first down but the ball was overthrown.  Parker took the hand off on second down and scrambled his way down field to the Lion 35-yard line setting up another set of downs for the Stallion offense.  On first down Smith garnered 8-yards before Devin Watkins and a host of Lions were able to make the stop.  Facing second down and 2, Parker was called up on again to advance the ball rushing around the left side line and stretching for the end zone but fumbling the ball out of bounds near the 3-yard line.  With a new set of downs Parker was called up once again rushing over the left line of scrimmage where O'Mary made the stop near the goal line.  Second down brought Smith with a keeper up the middle for what appeared to be a score but an illegal procedure penalty moved the ball back to the 6-yard line setting up second down and goal as time expired on the third quarter.  Parker carried the ball again advancing back to the 2-yard line where Aldridge held him just short of the goal line.  Facing third down and inches misery struck the Stallion offense as they were penalized again for illegal procedure moving the ball back near the 5-yard line.  On the replay of down, Smith connected with Kyle Aldridge just short of the goal line with Aldridge advancing for the touchdown with 11:03 remaining in the game.  Rileys kick on the PAT was perfect and the Stallions were edging back within reach by a score of 34-27.
Riley's ensuing kick was received at the 19-yard line by White who advanced along the side line to the 24-yard line before stepping out of bounds.  First down brought Dillard on the carry rushing across the line of scrimmage heading for the goal before Luke Trull made the saving tackle at the Stallion 44-yard line.  After picking up another set of downs with rushing attempts by O'Mary and Stewart and a pass completion to Aldridge the Lions were setting deep inside the Stallion red zone where O'Mary took the hand-off and went straight up the middle untouched into the end zone for his fifth touchdown on the evening.  The PAT kick by Dillard was perfect and the Lions extended their lead 40-27 with 6:41 remaining.
Landon Millers ensuing kick was fielded at the 30-yard line by Blake Mitchell who advanced to the 39-yard line where Blayke Hill made the tackle.  On first down Smith advanced up the middle for a 2-yard gain where Hill once again made the tackle.  Fleming took the hand-off and advanced around the left side line to midfield where Stewart made the stop for the Lions.  Smith reverted to the passing game and connected with Fleming who advanced to the 9-yard line before Jordan White could make the run-down tackle.  Parker took the hand-off rushing up the middle where he was met by Devon Marcum after a 2-yard gain.  Reverting back to the passing attack, Smith attempted a connection with Parker but the ball was bobbled and fell incomplete.  Facing third down and 7, Smith called his own number and advanced to the end zone for the touchdown with 4:29 remaining in the game.  Rileys kick on the PAT attempt was just outside the uprights and the score stood 40-33 in favor of the Lions.
Austin Palmer recovered the onside kick from Riley at the Lion 32-yard line setting the Lion offense up to run out the clock.  Dillard took the ball around the left side line on first down and following the play the Stallions were penalized for a personal infraction moving the ball across midfield to the Stallion 47-yard line.  O'Mary took the hand-off and was met at the line of scrimmage by Posley after a 1-yard gain.  Dillard called his own number on second down advancing over right guard for a 7-yard pickup before Luke Trull made the tackle.  Dillard rushed again on third down and was met by Zach Foster, Marquis Mitchell and a host of angry defenders for the stop at the 32-yard line.  With time running down the Lions almost met misery as the ball was fumbled on the snap, but Dillard recovered the loose ball with only a loss of 5-yards.  Dillard and Stewart protected the ball on the next three plays as time expired giving the visiting Lions the victory over the homestanding Stallions.  The Lions will return to Wiley Hollingsworth Stadium on Friday night hosting the Brilliant Tigers in another Region 5 game.  Game time is 7pm.
Comments from Coach Lamar Harris:
"Overall I was pleased with the hard fought effort by our guys in tonight's game.  We have to realize that we're playing ball this year with a lot of young guys who are not experienced in the game.  Some have never played varsity ball and the inexperienced showed on several different levels in tonight's game.  Our kicking game continues to hurt and some of the penalties from the game tonight could have really cost us.  I'm not at all pleased with those aspects of the game.  However I do want to make it clear that we hung in there and had the initiative and determination to drive, drive, drive the ball and we fought hard at the end of the game to hold off and win the game.  I'm proud of the effort and the kids determination to walk out with a victory but we've got more work to do on the practice field."
